Louis XII was a solitary king, rather withdrawn, who in order to avoid the exhausting life style of the Louvre Palace, in Paris, set his heart upon a hunting lodge, built in 1624, situated between two large forests to the southwest of Paris, at Versailles.
The château is one of the most visited tourist attractions.
